A full Dhow with almost 90 fellow Scots and other nationalities set sail form Mina Zayed on the 19th of February. Carefully pulling out of our mooring and demolishing the corner of the adjacent Dhow, we headed steadily out into the main channel.
Gracefully making way along the Corniche, to the familiar sound of the pipes from Olivier Frediani, the temperature that of a balmy Summer’s day in Scotland, the Dhow attracted more then it’s fair share of attention from local jet ski riders, who gamboled alongside the boat like so many dolphins frolicking alongside an ocean going yacht.
A tempting array of kebabs, salads, sushi and sweetmeats were served, and devoured, as the party made its leisurely way up toward the Hiltonia Beach Club area. The views of the constantly and ever more rapidly changing skyline of Abu Dhabi mesmerized the guests as the warm sun gradually added an ever deepening red hue to the pates of the more follically challenged. As you can see our youngest passenger thought the day just great.
As the sun was beginning to think of making its way towards the horizon, we started our return journey gently swinging around the stern of a magnificent private yacht form George Town which was moored in the bay. Adults and children alike played on the decks or helped themselves to a feast and some softies.
With a glowing, setting sun behind us we made a slightly speedier last leg back towards the port and to our mooring, with more serenading from Olivier on the pipes, almost assisted by Alastair MacMillan, until major resuscitation was called for.
All in all a very pleasant afternoon for all. Many thanks to all who took part. We look forward to seeing you all and more at the Scottish Day on Yas Island on 26th March
